Pinion Shafts are the device that are used as external input shafts gear operators. This reduces the internal gearing process. Pinion Shafts are of various types like: Integral and Shrunk fit Piston Shafts, it is simply a round iron rod and it has teeth on it. These teeth lie parallel to the length of the shaft, not length wise on the rack. These arrive into the rack at a 90 degree angle and these are held in place by a collar. The pinion is attached directly to the steering column. This is done because for instance when the steering wheel is turned to the left, the pinion rotates anti-clockwise. The rack change the rotary motion of the pinion into transverse motion. The rack moves to the right and this makes the wheel to go left.
